The key to avoiding being cursed is to understand and trust in the redemptive work of Christ as outlined in Galatians 3:13-14. These verses emphasize that Christ took on the curse of the law so that we wouldn’t have to bear it. By understanding this truth, we can walk in the freedom and blessing that comes through faith in Christ alone.

Christ Took Our Curse

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree.” – Galatians 3:13

Jesus took upon Himself the curse that was rightfully ours because of our inability to fulfill the law. The law's curse is the inevitable consequence of failing to uphold its requirements (Deu 27:26). By becoming a curse for us on the cross, Jesus bore the punishment that we deserved, thereby redeeming us from its condemnation and bondage and making us righteous in Him.

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” – 2 Corinthians 5:21

This redemption means that we are no longer bound by the law's curse or the curse of sin. We are dead to the law through our death in Christ and made alive in Him (Rom 6:1-11). Colossians 2:13-14 further emphasizes this truth by explaining that Christ forgave us of all our sins and took the condemnation of the law out of the way by His grace:

“[13] And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; [14] Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;” – Colossians 2:13-14

You Are Not Cursed

The believer's position in Christ means we are no longer under the old covenant's curse. Being in Christ provides us peace with God (Romans 5:1-2). This peace isn't something that fluctuates based on our works or circumstances; it's an eternal position secured by Christ’s finished work on the cross. Therefore, when life’s challenges arise, it is not an indication that God is cursing us, for we have been redeemed and are forever blessed with all spiritual blessings in Christ (Eph 1:3).

The Blessing of Abraham

“That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” – Galatians 3:14

Abraham was justified by faith, not by works, and this same blessing of imputed righteousness is now available to Gentiles through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 4:17-25). This verse emphasizes that the way to partake in the blessings of Abraham is through faith in Christ, not through adherence to the law.

Through Christ, the promise of the Spirit is given to us. This Spirit works in believers, teaching us and revealing the blessings we have in Christ (1Co 2:9-10). This spiritual inheritance confirms that we are children of God, heirs according to the promise, and not bound by the curse of the law (Gal 3:24-29, Rom 8:16).

Conclusion

As believers, we must embrace the truth that "You Are Not Cursed." Christ became a curse for us, redeeming us from the law's curse and granting us the blessing of Abraham through faith. We stand righteous before God, not because of our works but because of Christ's finished work on the cross. Our lives should reflect this freedom, walking in the Spirit and knowing that we are forever redeemed and blessed in Him. Thank God for taking our curse!
